The configuration arms a detective, forensic analyst or crime scene investigator with:
-
A laptop computer, for entering evidence collected at the crime scene
-
Portable barcode printer, for printing on the spot labels of various sizes to quickly and effectively label every item collected.
-
Blank labels, weather resistant labels used by the barcode printer.
-
Laser or impact printer, for printing high resolution Crime Scene receipts and required reports.
As an item is collected by an officer, the item is bagged and tagged with a barcoded label and an entry is
made into the Crime Scene computer. This data will later be transmitted to the ACE server
and incorporated into the Chain of Custody records. The physical item can be delivered at a later time to the Evidence Room.
In this case, the corresponding data will have already been uploaded to the ACE Database and will be available to ease data entry,
saving time and man power. The process will also make the data available for query to produce valuable reports.
